Founded in 1976
The Highbury Area Band, originally founded by Michael Morton, has grown from a small ensemble of wind players who in 1976 were all attending Highbury Junior School in Portsmouth, to their current position as one of the most highly
accomplished symphonic youth wind bands in Hampshire.

Bringing Live Music into the Community
The band's primary aim is bringing live music into the community by performing concerts throughout the year under the leadership of their musical director, Mr Steve Tanner LTCL

  

Talented Young Muscians
Highbury Area Band is a Symphonic Youth Wind Band of considerable talent and excellent reputation. There are currently around 60 playing members mostly aged between 11 and 21 although there are some older members who have enjoyed their playing so much that they have stayed on well into their twenties.

New Members
Applications are normally considered from players of grade 4 standard or above.
Band practice takes place on Wednesday evenings (during term times only) between 1900 and 2130 in the dedicated practice rooms at Fort Widley.
